Ecuador: Penipe & Banos

Ecuador: Penipe & Banos

Good morning from Ecuador! We had an incredible and powerful experience traveling to an orphanage for children and adults with disabilities over the weekend. Christo Librador, the church we have been partnering with since we arrived, has been exploring options to start their own mission partnerships in Quito. We travelled with them by bus for 5 hours to the orphanage in Penipe to help them begin the partnership with the residents and staff. While we were there together, we danced with residents for dance therapy, repainted the basketball court, sanded down rusted playground equipment, helped to feed residents, and worked with our friends at Christo to support the ministry of the nuns who run the orphanage.
While debriefing our time in Penipe, we all expressed that while the residents were one of the clearest expression of God we have seen since we arrived in Ecuador, we also all struggled to reconcile our desire to help and our understanding of God’s unending love with the profound disabilities we saw in Penipe.
This experience in Penipe was powerful and life-changing - ask us about it when we get back!

Laney Peebles has offered a prayer for the residents at the orphanage: “I pray that the kids at the orphanage continue to feel loved and that people continue to not judge them”
