Ecuador days 3&4: Christo Librador

Ecuador days 3&4: Christo Librador
Yesterday we wrapped up our time serving alongside the parishioners of Christo Librador. We built rabbit and guinea pig hutches, completed painting and some yard work for a sweet parishioner named Lilly, and completed our renovation of the sanctuary space at Christo. We also went out to lunch and enjoyed the opportunity to try more Ecuadorian food - lots of potatoes!
The bishop also joined us yesterday, which you might’ve seen on the EpiscopalUpperSC Instagram page. He helped us complete our renovation of the sanctuary, especially right at the end when we were really feeling the toll of three days of manual labor and he hadn’t yet.
When we finished the sanctuary space, we shared a homemade dinner together at Christo - rice and meat, before moving into worship time. We led an activity where the parishioners completed a communal painting on a white altar cloth. The adults had a great time painting each others faces instead of the cloth itself, but the sentiment of community and creativity persisted. We then had a closing Eucharist of our time together and had the opportunity to worship in Spanish alongside our friends at Christo. Eucharist was definitely the highlight of many of our days yesterday, as we really felt the community and Holy Spirit presence in the room throughout our shared worship.
This morning we will journey to Penipe with some of our friends from Christo Librador to serve at a local orphanage for children with profound disabilities. We will be primarily providing labor for the orphanage and helping them run their operations as smoothly as possible. This is also an opportunity for the people of Christo Librador to begin a partnership with the orphanage that will last beyond our time in Ecuador with them.

Continue to pray for us as we journey to Penipe, for our partnership with Christo, Christo’s partnership with the orphanage, and for our group to continue to have servants hearts and joyful community.
